Episode five of the AIBIO podcast series produced by Artificially Ever After features an interview with Prof Tilo Burghardt of the University of Bristol. Prof Burghardt’s research interests are in computer science and animal biometrics, where he seeks to apply AI in the most complex environments in the natural world.
An estimated thirty thousand species go extinct every single day, and much of the conversation around AI focusses on the environmental impact – the water consumption, the energy demands, and the relentless growth. In this interview, Prof Burghardt speaks about how AI can be used to enhance our understanding of and connection with nature, helping us to take guardianship and reverse the trend of destructive industrialisation that technology has followed.
